i capture Neerja in her bridal attire when she was 12 or 13 in Kathmandu. In our community of Newars a girl is symbolically married to Bhanwan Bishnu (God) so that a woman never becomes a widow. It does not appear Neerja at that age could understand the significance of of the ritual but the girl child is happy all the same undergoing this coming of age ritual. in the background is the snows of the mountain signifying purity.
