The artwork depicts Hatshepsut, one of the few female Pharoahs of ancient Egypt. In the background is a portion of the famous temple Djeser-Djeseru, built by Hatshepsut. The subject bears the blue khepresh crown adorned with a falcon, a broad beaded usekh collar in turquoise and terracotta, and the draped white linen of the pharaonic court. The hierogyphic symbols - ankh, the crook and the flail and scepter, seen in the artwork are symbols related to divine protection and authority, power and immortality, often assiciated with Pharoahs.

The work bridges historical reverence with bold, contemporary mark-making. It is a part of the series 'Study in Femininity: From Goddesses to the Rest of Us'.
