'Brighten' was painted as a reminder that even on days where things aren't looking great, we can choose to fill our spaces with colour and brightness to uplift our mood.

A vase overflowing with colour sits on a windowsill. Its bouquet of cobalt asters, a golden gerber daisy, red begonias, a lavender delphinium amongst others blaze against a deep emerald backdrop. Outside, the muted green wash suggests rain. Rendered in oil pastel with tactile strokes, the saturated hues of the flowers glow all the more for the subdued light beyond the glass. Brighten is a small meditation on how we shape our own weather indoors — how a single gathered bouquet can lift an otherwise dull, dreary day, one petal at a time.
