Sohni Mahiwal- Panjabi Folk Painting

Immerse yourself in one of Punjab’s most iconic, eternal love stories with Sohni Mahiwal – Punjabi Folk Painting, an original 18×18-inch handmade watercolor masterpiece by Gurdish Pannu. The artwork captures the poignant climax of the tragedy, depicting Sohni pleading with her baked earthenware pot (pakka ghada)—treating it as a living confidante as she prepares to brave the roaring Chenab River to reach her beloved Mahiwal. Through expressive abstract forms and rich, fluid watercolor washes, Pannu depicts her desperate choice between certain drowning and breaking a sacred promise. Though the river claimed their physical bodies that night, their sacrifice immortalized them in the soul of Punjab, leaving a legacy of timeless devotion and courage against societal norms.
