"Canvas and colors are the love of my life and they are the best possible things that happened in my life, as that medium helped me to express my inner-self to the outside world" -  Nishant Mishra

My Biography

I am a 29 year-old self-taught artist and a doctor by profession. I was born in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh to upper-middle class North Brahmin family. I completed my schooling from Varanasi and later moved to New Delhi for further studies where I completed M.B.B.S from the prestigious Army College of Medical Sciences. I am currently pursuing M.D in Anesthesiology and Critical Care from Vardhaman Mahaveer Medical College & Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi.

Though I was always inclined towards studies, I was on the lookout for a meaningful medium to express my emotions and that is how ‘painting’ happened. My journey has not been smooth and the good thing is that I learned from my own mistakes.

The moment when I identified the artist ‘inside me’ (or The Aha moment)

My inspiration has been my struggle on Canvas and my skills improved with each passing day. From a beginner who had minimal or no idea on how to do basic things, this self-taught artist is now considered a ‘painter’ rather than a ‘doctor’. People fondly address me ‘Painter Mishraji’ and that is when I & my family members feel immense pride & happiness. Art is God’s gift to me and I feel humbled to have that boon. I have a belief that an artist comes up with interesting ideas when things are unplanned as each moment in your career has an ample amount of learnings. Also while painting some moments; a strange action/thought happens on canvas which only belongs to that moment which gives identity to that painting. I am the seeker of that particular moment.

My Artwork

Though I thoroughly enjoy painting, my primary expertise is ‘Canvas Paintings’. I mostly do oil/acrylic/mixed media on canvas and these artworks are usually abstract in nature, either in the manner of thought/visual expression. My paintings depict human emotions and conflicts in a subtle manner and hence it appeals to a wider audience. Along with emotions, I also try to incorporate mythological characters to put forward the knowledge of our Puranik/Vedic stories since they had a significant amount of influence on my upbringing in Varanasi. You can check out some of the paintings depicting Indian culture & deities here. Majority of my artwork/paintings has captured the feeling of eternal love, togetherness, devotion, struggles, etc. since it helps build a positive aura where the paintings are placed.

Feedback on Gallerist

My experience with Gallerist has been positive and I hope that it would continue to be the same in the coming future. The staff of Gallerist is very supportive as they easily connect with the sentiments of the artwork (as well as the artist). They take feedback very positively and ensure that art collectors & art lovers are able to find the best artworks on the click of a button. This is the primary reason why Gallerist is considered a pioneer as far as online art-gallery is concerned.
